BIO:
Born in Nanjing, China, and raised near the U.S. border in suburban Langley, Canada, alt-pop misfit Sunny Daydream (any pronouns) learned English through singing, began to write songs at age eight, and joined school choirs to feel a sense of belonging. Influenced by the DIY attitude of an eccentric yet empowering era of online “it girls” like Sky Ferreira and Tavi Gevinson, Sunny created a fashion and lifestyle blog in high school, which brought the young artist into Vancouver for collaborations. At 17, Sunny relocated to Vancouver to further pursue their dreams in music, fashion and film. Estranged from their immigrant family, the singer-songwriter lived by English Bay Beach in a one-bedroom apartment with a roommate - this iconic West End location inspired Sunny to write electropop single “Ocean Girl” under former music project Sad China. Sunny burst onto the scene by working the door for after hours, modelling for local designers and covering events for webzines. The nonbinary performer crafts heartfelt songs made for both biking down the Seawall and crying on the dancefloor. Encouraged to alchemize trauma and express deep emotions through music, emboldened by artists such as Lana Del Rey, Fka twigs and Poison Girl Friend, Sunny uses music, dance, words, film and more to spread their message of hope, healing and longing to belong. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the interdisciplinary artist reconnected with certain family members. Sunny applies nature-inspired sounds, lyrical imagery and visuals of the everlasting Pacific Ocean and coastal forests. Sunny earned a BA in Psychology with a minor in English literature from UBC.

Sunny wrote, co-produced, and mixed their upcoming single “Anew World”, which features their ethereal vocals over an enigmatic beat, with spoken word in French, Mandarin and English, and will be released on August 12, 2026. Catch the artist live at Vines Art Festival on August 6, 2026. Past performances include Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival, Surrey Fusion Festival, Music Waste, Jam in Jubilee: Fraser Valley Music Awards, Berlin Party Tokyo and Jade Music Festival. Notable collaborations involve Toronto-based alternative/synthpop artist Yaris Paris on “2 Lonely” (single), and Surrey’s Stanza Lune on “Changeling” (single) “[to celebrate] queer neurodiverse whimsy… Stanza Lune and Sunny Daydream’s new song is a glimpse of a kinder world” (Rachael Quak, The Peak).
